Rani ki Vav is an 11th-century stepwell built in memory of King Bhimdev I, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2014. Seven levels of steps lead down past hundreds of finely carved sculptures of gods, goddesses and apsaras.

About Rani ki Vav, Patan

The stepwell was buried under silt for centuries, which is why its carvings survived in such fine detail. It was excavated and restored by the Archaeological Survey of India in the late 20th century.
