About Gir National Park

The Gir forest covers more than 1,400 sq km of dry deciduous forest across Junagadh, Gir Somnath and Amreli districts. Thanks to decades of conservation, the lion population has grown steadily, and Gir is one of India's great wildlife success stories.
How to Reach Gir National Park
Sasan Gir is about 60 km from Junagadh, 45 km from Somnath and 160 km from Rajkot. The nearest airports are Rajkot and Diu. Sasan has a small railway station, but most visitors come by road and stay a night near the park for the early-morning safari.
