The Sun Temple at Modhera was built in 1026–27 by King Bhima I of the Chaulukya dynasty. Its carved hall faces the stepped Surya Kund, a tank lined with over a hundred small shrines.

About Modhera Sun Temple
Every January, after Uttarayan, the temple hosts the Modhera Dance Festival of classical dance. Modhera is also known as India's first 24×7 solar-powered village.
The temple was designed so that the first rays of the rising sun fall on the image of Surya at the equinoxes. Even without an idol, the carvings of gods, dancers and scenes from daily life make it one of the finest examples of Solanki architecture.
How to Reach Modhera Sun Temple
Modhera is about 100 km from Ahmedabad and 25 km from Mehsana. Ahmedabad has the nearest airport and Mehsana the nearest major railway station. A cab lets you combine Modhera, Rani ki Vav and the Bahucharaji temple in one day.
